For this project, I worked on a team of 14 to redesign a block in San Francisco, California. The current site is comprised of a Safeway parking lot site in Duboce Triangle neighborhood.

Site Visit + Conditions Analysis
Before starting on our design, my team and I visited and analyzed the conditions of the current site. The left map shows a Google Earth view of the site. We contextualized the design based on green spaces, neighborhood context, public transit lines, and pedestrian flow.
Stakeholder Input & Community-based Design
After speaking with the Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association, we learned that residents wanted to keep the Safeway and parking in some way, and have new pedestrian access, civic land uses, and residential spaces. We also discussed with Safeway to learn about regulations and restrictions regarding building codes and parking space.
Individual Design:
Before we worked as a team, each individual member created their own ideation of the site. In my design, I incorporated massing, civic land use, housing, and networks of movement. In the left diagram, I used a 1:100 base map and marker drawing, and on the right diagram, I used SketchUp and Google Earth before overlaying it with a pen drawing.
Final Team Design:
For the final team design, we discussed the needs of the stakeholders and community, including desired land use, clear road arteries and networks, transit options, green space, and a civic space. We presented the final design in front of stakeholders, wherein I drew the final illustrative plan using Procreate over a 1:100 base map.
